Trent Brown Back On Raiders’ Reserve/COVID-19 List
Trent Brown has run into several issues that have impacted his availability this season. After another transaction Thursday, the Raiders right tackle will miss another game.
The Raiders placed Brown on their reserve/COVID-19 list, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets. Brown landing back on the coronavirus list would force him to isolate for five days. Brown is still experiencing complications from his bout with the virus, Albert Breer of SI.com reports (Twitter link). He will miss the Raiders’ Week 9 game against the Chargers.
Brown landed on the list two weeks ago, after testing positive for COVID-19, and missed the Raiders’ Week 7 game against the Buccaneers. While Brown came off the list last week and was on track to resume his season in Cleveland, a scary pregame IV mishap forced the 380-pound lineman to be hospitalized Sunday. He was discharged from that hospital Sunday night.
After being the rare right tackle to make the Pro Bowl last season, Brown has only played 73 snaps in 2020. He suffered a pectoral injury in Week 1, returned in Week 5 to help the Raiders upset the Chiefs but has not played since. Considering Brown’s weight makes him a higher risk for developing coronavirus complications, the sixth-year blocker continuing to experience issues is certainly a situation to monitor for the Raiders and the NFL.

Raiders’ Tanner Muse Done For Year
Tanner Muse‘s NFL debut will have to wait until next year. On Tuesday, the Raiders’ rookie linebacker underwent toe surgery that will shut him down for the season (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero). 
The Raiders drafted Muse in the third round to supplement their LB additions in free agency. Unfortunately, Muse’s toe injury held him back all throughout the summer. The Raiders still see a bright future for the 6’2, 230-pound defender, especially given his redshirt senior showing. In 2019, Muse was first-team All-ACC as he registered 73 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, and a team-high four interceptions.
Muse isn’t the only Raiders rookie to be hampered by injury. First-round cornerback Damon Arnette (broken wrist) and third-round receiver Bryan Edwards (ankle) have missed four straight games. Both players could return in time to face the Chargers, but Muse will be watching as he recuperates.
The Raiders’ defense managed to hold the Browns to just six points on Sunday, paving the way to a low-scoring victory for a 4-3 record. A win over the Chargers on Sunday would help keep the Raiders in the Chiefs’ orbit, though their most likely path to the postseason would be as a Wild Card team.
Raiders’ Trent Brown Hospitalized
Raiders tackle Trent Brown was suddenly ruled out shortly before his team’s game against the Browns, and now we know why.
Something went wrong with the IV Brown was getting pre-game, which caused air to get into his bloodstream, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network tweets. Obviously that’s an extremely serious situation, and Rapoport writes that he required immediate medical attention and was hospitalized. He adds that Browns is going to stay in the hospital overnight to undergo further tests.
Details are still light, but fortunately it sounds like he’s going to be alright. Brown of course was just recently activated from the COVID-19 list after catching the virus, and was set to make his return today. This incident will certainly garner comparisons to the Chargers’ team doctors accidentally puncturing Tyrod Taylor‘s lung earlier this year.
Brown went down with a calf injury in Las Vegas’ opener, and missed the next three games. He returned for their win over the Chiefs before landing on the COVID-19 list. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear more, and obviously our thoughts are with Brown right now.

Raiders Remove 4 O-Linemen From Reserve/COVID-19 List
Oct 25: Saturday’s COVID-19 tests for Miller, Good, Hudson, and Jackson came back negative, as Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports (via Twitter). All four will be available for the Raiders’ battle with the Bucs this afternoon.
Oct. 24: As of Saturday afternoon, the NFL has avoided another major schedule issue. Sunday afternoon’s Raiders-Buccaneers game is a go, and the hosts could well be better equipped to pull an upset.
The Raiders removed offensive linemen Kolton Miller, Denzelle Good, Rodney Hudson and Gabe Jackson from their reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday. The team had placed its other four starting O-linemen on the list because they were deemed high-risk close contacts of Trent Brown, who tested positive for the coronavirus this week.
Brown will miss Sunday’s game, but his blocking mates are on track to play. However, they will not be officially cleared to do so until their Saturday coronavirus tests come back clean, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets. The team will obtain that information Sunday. Its four non-Brown O-line starters receiving clearance will certainly help Las Vegas’ cause against a Tampa Bay defense ranked first in DVOA through six games.
Recently signed defensive lineman David Irving is also set to make his Raiders debut. Reinstated from an 18-plus-month suspension just last week, Irving signed with the Raiders as a practice squad player. The Raiders will see what the former Cowboys starter can do beginning Sunday. Irving, 27, has not played since the 2018 season, when he saw action in only two games, and has been suspended four times by the NFL. In 2017, however, the interior pass rusher notched seven sacks in just eight games (all starts).
