Seahawks Sign Alex Collins
The Seahawks have signed running back Alex Collins to the practice squad, per a club announcement. Collins will head to the practice squad alongside linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who was brought back after a brief hiatus.
[RELATED: Mychal Kendricks Returns To Seahawks Practice Squad]
The Seahawks worked out Collins back in January, but didn’t end up signing him at the time. Months later, he’s back. They’re plenty familiar with Collins, as he started his career with the Seahawks back in 2016. A fifth-round pick out of Arkansas, Collins was waived after a rookie season where he played sparingly. He signed with Baltimore, and ended up having a breakout 2017 season with the Ravens.
Collins became their full-time starter, racking up 973 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games. After that, his career took some odd turns. A 2018 foot injury cut his season short and his arrest in the 2019 offseason prompted the Ravens to drop him. After spending all of 2019 out of football, this marks Collins’ first opportunity to get his career back on track.
Seahawks’ Carlos Dunlap Reworks Deal
Carlos Dunlap reworked his contract to facilitate his trade to the Seahawks, as Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets. Dunlap was initially set to make $4.59MM for the remainder of the year. Now, he’ll earn $2MM over the next two months, plus a $3MM roster bonus for 2021.
[RELATED: Bengals Trade Carlos Dunlap To Seahawks]
The adjustment — in theory — is a virtual wash for Dunlap. However, he won’t see that $3MM roster bonus unless he’s on the Seahawks’ roster on fifth day of the 2021 league year. If Dunlap doesn’t deliver for Seattle the rest of the way, the Seahawks won’t be inclined to keep him.
The Bengals hardly used Dunlap, and he was unhappy about it to say the least. After starting in Cincinnati’s first four games of the season, he was bumped from the first-string lineup and saw his snap count slashed week after week. Then, about a week before the trade deadline, Dunlap got his wish — the Bengals shipped him to the Seahawks in exchange for offensive lineman B.J. Finney and a draft pick.
Dunlap should help the 6-1 Seahawks generate more pressure against opposing quarterbacks, something they’ve struggled to do thus far in 2020. Despite his rocky first half with the Bengals, the veteran boasts 82.5 career sacks and plenty of ability on the edge.
Mychal Kendricks Returns To Seahawks Practice Squad
Mychal Kendricks will sign back with the Seahawks’ practice squad today, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times (on Twitter). Kendricks was released from the reserve group just yesterday with the intention of signing elsewhere. That deal fell through, Condotta hears, leading him right back to Seattle.

Kendricks spent 2018 and 2019 with the Seahawks and played extensively alongside Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, with the team using its base defense frequently. Kendricks recovered from an injury that ended his ’18 season and started in 14 games last season, only to suffer an ACL tear in the regular season finale. After that, Kendricks embarked on a lengthy recovery and an extended stretch of free agency. The Seahawks then stashed him on the practice squad in mid-October.
The former six-year Eagles starter offers 91 pro starts and 19 sacks, despite being a career off-ball linebacker. Technically speaking, this will mark Kendricks’ fourth signed contract with the Seahawks.

Seahawks To Cut TE Luke Willson
The Seahawks are releasing tight end Luke Willson, as Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. The move will allow the Seahawks to activate rookie TE Colby Parkinson and maintain a group of four players at the position.
Willson, a 2013 fifth-round pick, spent the first five years of his career with the Seahawks. That streak was interrupted in 2018 when he spent one year with the Lions. After notching just 13 catches in 14 games for Detroit, and having a cup of coffee with the Raiders, he returned to Seattle for the 2019 season. This year, he was re-upped, but did not record a catch in five games.
Parkinson was drafted in the fourth round to push for snaps at tight end, which wasn’t necessarily a position of need in the spring. Unfortunately, he broke the fifth metatarsal in his foot over the offseason, delaying his debut by a few months. The Stanford product first put himself on the map with seven touchdowns in 2018. Then, last year, he set new career bests with 48 grabs for 589 yards (though he only scored once).
Parkinson will get his first chance to suit up as a pro on Sunday when the Seahawks face the Bills in Buffalo.
Jerry Jones: Cowboys Won’t Trade Aldon Smith
Aldon Smith isn’t going anywhere, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says (Twitter link via Calvin Watkins of the Dallas News). Jones, while confirming reports of the Seahawks’ inquiry, stressed that he’s not interested in moving the defensive lineman.
Smith has been one of the few bright spots on Dallas’ D, leading the way with four sacks. His one-year, $2MM deal has proven to be a tremendous value, and the Cowboys will be happy to double that amount if Smith achieves the necessary sack incentives. If anything, it sounds like the Cowboys will be looking to extend their deal with the former All-Pro.
The Cowboys have already addressed the D-Line with two trades this week, bringing Texans nose tackle Eli Ankou to Dallas and shipping out defensive end Everson Griffen. They won’t go for a hat trick by moving Smith before today’s deadline, nor do they anticipate making any more deals. With that said, Jones won’t rule out the possibility of making a trade before 4pm ET/3pm CT.
At 2-6, some have wondered if the Cowboys should seize the opportunity to rebuild. Or, at least, retool their roster. Then again, thanks to the state of the NFC East, the Cowboys are not totally out of playoff contention.
Trade Rumors: Thomas, Njoku, Watt, Jets
Saints head coach Sean Payton has said his team has no interest in trading star receiver Michael Thomas, though Thomas’ camp was recently said to be looking for potential deals. There has been no movement towards a Thomas trade, and whether that’s because New Orleans has no interest in dealing him or because the club has not received an offer it likes, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com says Thomas will stay put.
With the trade deadline two days away, let’s round up a few more rumors on players who could be on the move:
- The Browns don’t want to trade tight end David Njoku, but Njoku has renewed his request to be dealt, and Rapoport says Cleveland has been fielding calls on the former first-rounder. It may take at least a fourth-round pick to get a deal done, but with Austin Hooper set to return and with the emergence of rookie Harrison Bryant, the Browns may elect to move Njoku.
- Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports writes that the Texans are at the center of the trade market, with one executive saying Houston could move as many as five players if it wants to. Rapoport expects the Packers‘ interest in Will Fuller — which dates back to the summer — to ramp up, but it will likely take a high pick to convince the Texans to move Fuller. Fellow WR Kenny Stills has also drawn some interest, though rival clubs see the contracts for Stills and Randall Cobb as prohibitive. DE J.J. Watt may be receptive to a trade, but considering his contract and age, other teams probably don’t value him like the Texans do.
- The Jets have received calls on LB Avery Williamson, OTs George Fant and Chuma Edoga, and CB Quincy Wilson, per Albert Breer of SI.com. Rich Cimini of ESPN.com says the Steelers — who recently lost Devin Bush for the season — could be in the market for Williamson, and Edoga also seems like a good bet to be dealt since he does not look like a fit with the current regime.
- La Canfora says teams have also called the Jets about WR Breshad Perriman and TE Chris Herndon, though Breer notes that safety Marcus Maye has not drawn much interest.
- Rapoport names Dolphins RB Jordan Howard and Seahawks TE Jacob Hollister as two other players who could be moved. And though the Bengals are shopping disgruntled wideout John Ross, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com says there hasn’t been interest in Ross (Twitter link).
