Cowboys Place Micah Parsons On Reserve/COVID-19 List
Micah Parsons landed on the Cowboys’ reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday due to a positive test. With this news coming four days before the Cowboys’ recently rescheduled Week 18 matchup, Parsons’ regular season is likely over.
The NFL slid the Cowboys’ regular-season-ending Eagles matchup to Saturday. Even with the NFL’s revised protocols, Parsons will likely not be in uniform again until his team’s playoff opener. Week 18 stands to be Parsons’ first absence this season.
While the Cowboys’ Week 17 loss prevented them from vying for the NFC’s No. 1 seed, the NFC East champions could still obtain the conference’s Nos. 2 or 3 seeds. However, they would need to win and see the Rams and Buccaneers lose to move up. A win and a Rams loss to the 49ers would vault the Cowboys to the No. 3 slot. The Bucs are less likely to drop, having opened as 9.5-point home favorites against the Panthers.
As for Parsons, he has likely sewn up the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year honor. The Penn State product has been a revelation for the Cowboys, registering 13 sacks and an NFL-leading 20 tackles for loss while playing both linebacker and defensive end. No rookie has won Defensive Player of the Year acclaim since Lawrence Taylor in 1981. Oddsmakers peg sack leader T.J. Watt as the favorite for that award. Parsons, who has helped the Cowboys vault from 28th to seventh in scoring defense from 2020 to this season, has the second-best odds for the award.
The Cowboys will have a bit more help at linebacker in Philadelphia. They activated Keanu Neal from their virus list Wednesday. Neal missed Week 17 due to COVID-19.

Eleven teams have punched their ticket to the playoffs with one week to go in the regular season. Meanwhile, the Colts, 49ers, Chargers, Saints, Raiders, Steelers, and (technically) Ravens all still have a shot. If you’re a fan of one of the other 14 teams, this list may be of equal interest to you. That is, if your team still owns their original first-round pick.
For non-playoff teams, the draft order will be determined by the inverted 2021 standings, plus a series of tiebreakers, starting with strength of schedule. For playoff teams, the order is determined by their postseason outcome and regular season record.

Cowboys’ Michael Gallup Done For Year
Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup has been diagnosed with a full ACL tear, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (Twitter link). This was the feared outcome after Gallup was forced out of Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. 
“It was tough, very tough,” quarterback Dak Prescott said after the game (via ESPN.com). “Coming in at halftime and going to see him, just unfortunate. A guy that I love. Can’t get a better teammate than MG. Sick about it.”
Gallup suffered the injury when his knee buckled after a 21-yard touchdown grab. While the rest of the Cowboys gear up for the playoffs, his season will end with 35 catches for 445 yards and two TDs. Now, the Cowboys will be leaning even more on top receivers Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb with extra support from Cedrick Wilson. On the plus side, Wilson had a solid game against Arizona, collecting six grabs for 35 yards and a score.
The timing is especially unfortunate for Gallup since he’ll be out of contract in March. Between this and his calf injury earlier this year, he’s entering free agency with a less-than-ideal platform. Still, if he can make strides in rehab, there should be a healthy market for his services. Just last year, Gallup managed 59 catches for 843 yards and five touchdowns, a solid encore to his career year (66/1,107/6) in 2019.

Cowboys Believe Gallup Is Done For Year
In the second quarter of today’s game against the Cardinals, Cowboys’ wide receiver Michael Gallup injured his knee while pirouetting back to the ball on a catch that resulted in a touchdown as he fell into the end zone. Upon landing, the 25-year old out of Colorado State immediately reached for his knee. Local Cowboys reporter Michael Gehlken was quick to tweet out a statement from team owner Jerry Jones after the game that Dallas believes Gallup has torn his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. Gallup will undergo an MRI exam on Monday to confirm the early diagnosis.
Gallup missed 8 weeks earlier in the season when he was placed on IR after straining his left calf in the Cowboys’ Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay. Since rejoining the team in Week 10, Gallup quickly regained his position as WR3, behind CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper. He was looking to play a crucial role in the league’s top offense, in terms of yards per game, as they roll into the playoffs. Dallas will rely on Boise State product Cedrick Wilson to fill the empty role, as they did during Gallup’s IR stint. Behind Wilson, reserve receivers Noah Brown, Malik Turner, and Simi Fehoko have spent time on the active roster, but haven’t shown much in terms of production.
This is unfortunate timing for Gallup as he will go into the offseason as a free agent. On the bright side, Gallup has given the league a strong sample of his work in previous years. In 2019, Gallup caught 66 balls for 1,107 yards and 6 touchdowns despite only playing in 14 games. Last year, despite competing with Cooper and Lamb for targets, Gallup still recorded 59 catches for 843 yards and 5 touchdowns. He showed similar yardage per game in his limited time this year. It looks like, due to an unfortunately timed injury, someone in the league will probably get a good deal on a solid starting receiver.
Former Broncos, Giants, Falcons HC Dan Reeves Dies At 77
Dan Reeves, who coached the Broncos, Giants and Falcons during a decorated career that saw him win more than 200 games, died Saturday at age 77.
A former Cowboys running back and assistant coach, Reeves appeared in nine Super Bowls as a player or coach. He is the 10th-winningest coach in NFL history, winning 191 regular-season games (to go along with 10 playoff contests) from 1981-2003. While Reeves was best known as a coach for his 12 seasons in Denver, he later won Coach of the Year honors with the Giants and Falcons.
“The football world lost a heckuva coach and man today in Dan Reeves,” Broncos executive and Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway said Saturday (via Twitter). “Dan was a winner and I owe a lot to him. My heart goes out to Pam [Reeves] and the entire Reeves family.”
Following an eight-year career as a Cowboys running back, Reeves worked as the team’s offensive coordinator for four seasons. The Cowboys advanced to two Super Bowls during those years and won Super Bowl XII. The Broncos hired Reeves as their head coach in 1981. In his third season, Elway arrived. The two led the Broncos to three Super Bowls in the 1980s; they lost each time. The Reeves-Elway combo had Denver in the 1991 AFC championship game as well, but the Broncos parted ways with their longtime coach after the 1992 season.
Reeves coached the Giants for four years (1993-96) and the Falcons for seven (1997-2003). The 1993 Giants finished 11-5, narrowly losing out on home-field advantage in those playoffs. Reeves earned his first Coach of the Year honor for his debut season in New York and collected his second such award five years later, coaching the Falcons to a 14-2 season and the franchise’s first Super Bowl. The Broncos, in Elway’s final game, defeated the Falcons. The Georgia native’s final acts as a head coach came during Michael Vick‘s initial NFL seasons, including a 2002 slate when Vick powered Atlanta to the divisional round.
Of the seven retired coaches ahead of Reeves on the NFL’s all-time wins list, just one (Marty Schottenheimer) is not in the Hall of Fame. Reeves has yet to be inducted.
