Titans Try Out Two Backs

  • The Titans tried out ex-Green Bay running back Brandon Burks and former Navy fullback Chris Swain today, Tom Pelissero of USA Today tweets.

Titans Ownership May Face More Discipline

Long the target of NFL scrutiny due to an insufficient succession plan after Bud Adams’ death, the Titans have incurred punishment from the league this offseason and could be set for more NFL discipline.

The NFL already hit owner Amy Adams Strunk with a six-figure fine this year, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports, and the franchise remains non-compliant regarding its ownership.

Adams Strunk maintains she will not sell the team, although that is not the universal feeling among Bud Adams’ heirs, but the Titans have not offered a satisfactory plan to satisfy the league. No additional fines are on the table as of now, per La Canfora, but the league continues to monitor this situation and would impose more financial penalties in the future if necessary since this doesn’t appear to be letting up anytime soon.

The Titans could well end up back on the market, per La Canfora, with Jon Bon Jovi residing as a “keenly interested” suitor after a failed bid to buy the Bills. Additionally, Peyton Manning may view the Titans as the one team he would consider owning a portion of and concurrently serve in a presidential-type role, La Canfora reports.

After playing at Tennessee, Manning has long been connected with the Titans — as both a player and a potential executive. The recently retired quarterback revealed the team was his second choice when he decided to sign with the Broncos in 2012.

Titans Claim OL Josh Kline Off Waivers

The Titans have claimed offensive lineman Josh Kline off waivers from the Patriots, according to a Titans press release. In a related move, cornerback Cody Riggs was waived.Josh Kline (vertical)

Kline was originally supposed to go from the Pats to the Eagles in the recent Eric Rowe trade. Early reports indicated that the Eagles would flip the lineman to another team, but as it turns out, he was removed from the trade altogether. The Patriots, in turn, waived him.

Kline played in 14 games for New England last season and made 13 starts, splitting his time evenly between the two guard spots. He also started at left guard for both of the team’s playoff contests. The Titans are now adding him to the fold and they’ll have him under contract through 2017 at a reasonable rate.

Tennessee Titans

Titans Sign Marc Mariani

After having spent the past couple of seasons in Chicago, Marc Mariani is back in Tennessee. According to Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com, the Titans have signed the veteran WR/KR. The team has waived wideout Tre McBride to make the necessary roster spot, tweets ESPN’s Adam Caplan.

The former seventh-round pick broke onto the scene with the Titans as a rookie in 2010. The returner ended up making the Pro Bowl that season after having collected 27 punts for 329 yards and a touchdown and another 60 kickoffs for 1,530 yards and a touchdown. 2011 was another solid season for Mariani, but injuries kept him off the field in 2012 and 2013.

The receiver was ultimately cut by the Titans, and he landed on the Bears. In 2015, the 29-year-old finished with 29 punt returns for 129 yards, as well as 16 kick returns for 418 yards. Mariani also finished with career-highs in receptions (22) and receiving yards (300). The Bears re-signed the veteran this offseason, but he was cut by the squad this weekend.

McBride, a seventh-round pick out of William & Mary, initially made the Titans roster over former second-rounder Justin Hunter.
