Jaguars Waive LB Dylan Moses
Dylan Moses will have to revive his football career elsewhere. The Jaguars have waived the linebacker, reports Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com (via Twitter).
Moses was a five-star recruit coming out of high school, and he quickly lived up to the hype during his time at Alabama. He had a standout 2018 campaign, but that was cut short by a foot injury. He missed the entire 2019 season with a knee injury, but he managed to earn third-team All-American honors when he returned to the field in 2020.
Still, thanks to the lack of track record and a torn meniscus suffered during that 2020 campaign, Moses went undrafted in the 2021 draft, and he ended up catching on with the Jaguars. He went under the knife last February, so he ended up spending his entire rookie season on the non-football injury list. He was expected to be healthy enough to compete for a roster spot this year.
The Jaguars have already seen some turnover at linebacker this offseason. The team added Foyesade Oluokun on a three-year deal, and they also moved on from Myles Jack.

Some big names at wideout appear on this list, and the Jags also released former first-round pick Phillip Dorsett earlier Tuesday. Cooper is a former All-Pro kick returner who has held regular return gigs since that 2017 breakout. The fifth-year role player was the Cardinals’ primary return man in 2019 and filled the same role with the Panthers last season. Like Dorsett, Treadwell arrived as a first-round pick. But the former Vikings draftee has not been able to find steady footing in the league.
Jacksonville drafted Williams in the 2019 third round — two rounds after younger brother Quinnen went to the Jets — but the young linebacker did not start a game in 2020. Luton did, but the Oregon State product did not profile as a steady backup option. The Jags are going with Meyer-era investments Trevor Lawrence and C.J. Beathard at QB. The Wilson move comes after the veteran safety operated as a Jags back-line starter for the past two seasons.

Jaguars To Sign UDFA LB Dylan Moses
A former five-star recruit who once projected to be a high draft choice, Dylan Moses was not one of the numerous Alabama starters to hear his name called this weekend. But he agreed to a UDFA deal minutes after the draft’s conclusion.
The Jaguars are signing the former Crimson Tide linebacker, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com tweets. Moses is coming off knee surgery and will begin his Jacksonville tenure on the team’s NFI list. He will be getting a nice payday for a UDFA, with Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle tweeting that Moses will pocket $70K in guarantees ($50K in guaranteed salary plus a $20K signing bonus).
Moses’ prospects dimmed somewhat after an ACL tear wiped out his 2019 season. However, he returned to action in 2020 and earned first-team All-SEC acclaim. Moses made 76 tackles (six for loss) in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, helping the Crimson Tide to a dominant national championship run. The accomplished defender revealed he played through knee pain as a senior, and the persistent knee trouble certainly affected his draft status.
Urban Meyer‘s first draft running the Jaguars did not include a linebacker. The team has Myles Jack and Joe Schobert returning to reprise their roles as three-down ‘backers. Moses certainly profiles as a flier but one with considerable qualifications, should he be able to overcome his run of knee trouble.
Extra Points: Gronk, Patriots, WRs, Draft
Rob Gronkowski debuted as a FOX analyst Thursday night, but his former job continues to come up. Robert Kraft has yet to give up hope on the future Hall of Fame tight end returning to the Patriots.
“We all love Gronk, and I think the bottom line is he hasn’t put his retirement papers in,” Kraft said during an NFL Network appearance (Twitter link). “We can always pray and hope …. That’s a good academic argument that there is hope for us still with Gronk.”
The 30-year-old New England icon has continually denied he wants to come out of retirement but refuses to completely slam the door on a possible 10th season. Gronkowski said during his intro FOX broadcast he will “always keep the door open” for a Pats return. He said in August he was healthy enough to play. The team lost Josh Gordon in the first half of tonight’s game, and although it does not seem like the injury is serious — Gordon is questionable to return — the Pats’ offense is not as well-rounded as it was when Gronk created constant mismatches.

- The Patriots’ high-profile attempt at bringing in a Gronk-level talent ended with Antonio Brown‘s release after 11 days. Brown remains accused of sexual misconduct by two women. The first, Britney Taylor, refiled her civil suit against the unemployed wide receiver in Florida state court, according to ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler (on Twitter). Taylor’s attorneys categorize this as a strategic move and indicated new counsel has joined the case. A league investigation is ongoing as well. No team has been closely connected to the 31-year-old superstar since the Patriots cut him last month.
- As for elite wideouts still in the league, evaluators shared some interesting views in a piece by The Athletic similar to its quarterback-tiers arrangement. Odell Beckham Jr. and Tyreek Hill join Julio Jones on the top tier here, with NFL personnel viewing DeAndre Hopkins and Michael Thomas as high-second-tier talents (subscription required). Hopkins’ penchant for contested catches prompted one OC to indicate the fear factor surrounding the Texans wideout is not the same as it is when game-planning for Jones or Beckham.
- Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses is set to miss all of his junior season because of a knee injury, but the might-have-been first-round talent still has NFL supporters should he declare for the 2020 draft. A group of NFL evaluators view Moses as being a second- or third-round prospect in 2020, Mike Rodak of al.com notes. Moses would be one of many Crimson Tide draftees in the 2020 draft, should he declare, with ESPN.com’s Todd McShay ranking six Alabama standouts in his top 30.
Alabama LB Dylan Moses Suffers ACL Tear
Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses, who was widely projected as a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has suffered a torn ACL, according to Matt Zenitz of AL.com (on Twitter). Needless to say, Moses will miss the entire 2019 season for the Crimson Tide and his draft stock could suffer greatly as a result.
Moses was widely regarded as the best linebacker eligible for the 2020 class by many draft experts, including Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller (on Twitter). Miller still believes that Moses can be a first-round pick, if he is able to rehab quickly. Then again, we’ve seen athletic ‘backers like Moses tumble before. Myles Jack, for instance, was on track to be an early pick in 2016 before his injury caused him to fall to the Jaguars at No. 36 overall.
